These shavers need a new foil and cutter block every 12 to 18 months, depending on toughness of beard and frequency of use. Braun Syncro shavers are noted for their four-way moving head that captures and cuts more hair in fewer strokes. I purchased my Braun 7526 Syncro Shaver over a year ago and I have yet to replace the foil or cutter block.
My beard is not thick; however the individual hairs on my face are thick, so I need a good shaver to do a good job. Even though I have been shaving with the same foil and cutter block for a little over a year without any problems, there are a few tricks to make your foil and cutter block last longer. They are as follows:
1. Do not press down hard when shaving (it actually cuts better when you let up on the shaver).
2. Use a pre-shave lotion.
3. Do not use the "Clean and Charge" system after every shave. The alcohol in the refills tends to shorten the life of your foil.
4. Use the Clean and Charge system ONLY when it needs to be recharged. Other times clean your shaver by using the brushes it came with.
5. Reseal the clean and charge refill with the lid it came from after every time you use it. It will last you FAR LONGER. The alcohol dissipates when left open. This will save you a lot of money too!
6. If you must use a lubricant on your shaver, spray the foil and cutter foil with an aerosol spray cleaner like Remington Shaver Saver or some other lubricant.
If you follow some very simple techniques (as mentioned above), you can save a lot of money on refills, foils and cutter blocks.

I am STILL using the original foil and cutter block. I kid you NOT. I purchase 2 extra sets but I have yet to use them.

I have shaved with a blade for many years and about four years ago it began to really irritate my skin. Bought a Remington and was not really happy with it, but it was acceptable. When that razor crashed and burned, big time, I got smart and researched electric razors eventually settling on the Braun 7680 which uses this 7000 replacement foil & cutter. For me the shave is great. While I do seem to make more passes over my face than with the Remington, the shave is closer. As another reviewer has said, a blade will give a closer shave, but I am extremely happy with this system. The shaves are close, the battery last significantly longer than the Remington's did, and even given the evidence here, the foils last longer than the Remington's and are less expensive. Of course the cleaning cartridge is an additional cost, but I am certainly happy with its results.

I've had absolutely no problems with using this replacement combo from Braun. It seems to last about 9-12 months before needing a replacement.

I'm not sure why the other reviewers had such bad luck with their foils. Mine never crack or perforate. The cutter block is the limiting factor; it does get dull after no more than 18 months, and sometimes as few as 12. I've been using shavers with these foils for about 8 years now, so I have a fair amount of experience with them.

Rec'd this & noticed it looked different from the Syncro foil I was replacing. Upon looking at it with a magnifying glass, it has the "honeycomb" pattern used on the Activator series of shavers! It gives a better shave and I was pleased to be able to update and upgrad my Syncro to the new Activator performance. Cutter block looks the same (but has for years).
